National Research Infrastructure

Since 1994, two national research infrastructure units are located at the Department of Geology, Lund University, the Laboratory for Ceramic Research and the Laboratory for Wood Anatomy and Dendrochronology. The activity is based partly on contract work but the status of the laboratories as national centres for research and education within their specific fields is guaranteed through government funding from the Swedish Research Council and from Lund University. The laboratories are governed by a board that consists of representatives from the Swedish Research Council, Lund University, the Swedish National Heritage Board, the Swedish History Museum, the County Administrative Board of Skåne and archaeological and historical departments in Sweden

Spruce from Småland, southern Sweden. The youngest growth ring was formed in AD 1659 (t.v.).  Pine preserved in a peat deposit in southern Sweden. The tree grew during at least 166 years and died in the year 5016 BC (t.h.).
